Ramsey’s Fourth of July Celebration Set

The daylong festivities include a Stars vs Stripes softball game, musical performances, and a fireworks show.

After borough residents enjoy BBQs at home with family and friends on the Fourth of July, they can once again enjoy a daylong Independence Day celebration in Ramsey on July 6.

The borough council announced this week finalized plans for the annual celebration.

Kicking off the day’s events will be a Ramsey All Stars Softball Game to benefit the Ramsey Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 682.

The game will pit the Stars against the Stripes at Finch Park’s field. Teams are made up of borough police officers, firefighters, ambulance, Rescue and OEM volunteers, and members of town organizations like Greater Ramsey UNICO, the Bergen Highlands Rotary Club, the Knights of Columbus, the Junior Woman’s Club of Ramsey, the Woman’s Club of Ramsey, the Ramsey Chamber of Commerce, and local coaches and scout leaders.

Residents are invited to cheer on the teams, and stop by the VFW post to pick up a barbeque lunch and buy t-shirts, American flags and UNICO’s 50/50 raffle tickets.

The game is set to last about two hours, and the borough’s nighttime Fourth festivities start at 6:15 p.m. at Finch.

The night includes performances from Eaglemania, an Eagles cover band, the Ramsey DARE Idols, and the Ramsey Wind Symphony. Performances will last up until dusk, when the night will wrap up with a fireworks display.

50/50 raffle tickets sold throughout the day will benefit the VFW. The group uses the funds to help pay for flags for Ramsey’s Veterans Park, and handheld flags, to help support VFW projects like food bank donations and care packages for deployed troops, and providing financial support for national organizations like the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, Toys for Tots, the National Children's Home, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Voice of Democracy National Scholarships, and the construction of the Veterans Hall in the National Museum of the United States Army.

Anyone wishing to donate directly can by mailing a check to VFW Post 682, PO Box 161, Ramsey.

The borough has designated different parking options throughout the day. It has released the following information on parking:

Parking for the softball game will be permitted at Finch Park, however all vehicles must be cleared from the lot immediately after the game, as the lot will be reserved strictly for handicapped parking during the evening.   Beginning at 5 p.m., there will be continuous shuttle bus service to the Finch Park gazebo, stopping at the Tisdale School parking lot, the Municipal Parking lot across from Borough Hall, and the Main Street Train Station parking lot.

In case of inclement weather, the event’s rain date is Sunday.
