The Most Popular Dog Names in Ramsey 2013

Bailey, Charlie, Bella, and Tucker are all popular choices, but they didn't clinch the #1 spot. Also, check to see some of the most unique names given to Ramsey pups.

Ramsey’s got a lot of four-legged friends. In 2013, 1,182 dogs have been licensed and registered through borough hall. That means there is one dog for about every 12 people in the borough.

And, they’ve all got cute names.

Earlier this week, Patch asked its Facebook followers to comment on why and how they decided on their dogs’ names.

Resident Trish Hurley commented that her dog Callaway got his name from a street in the golf course in Ramsey.

Donna Schifano said her dachshund, Ziti, got his name after the family opened a cabinet and realized he was shaped like the pasta.

And, Martyne Rockefeller said her two dogs, Rosalita and Janey, were named for characters in Bruce Springsteen songs.

According to registration records from the borough of Ramsey, the following are the most popular dog names in town in 2013, and how many dogs have each name.

As for unique names, Ramsey dogs are all over the map. Some dogs are seemingly named for famous places, like Big Ben, Brooklyn, Bronx, and two Jerseys.

Some are named for pop culture figures, like Elvis, Chandler, and Fagan, while others are named for pastimes, like Black Jack and Jigsaw. A bunch of Ramsey dogs get their names from food and drinks, like Meatball, Guinness, Kahlua, and Sambuca.

There is even one dog in the borough named Patch, though he might be named for a spot, and not after his favorite website.
