Library to Dedicate Garden to Two Longtime Volunteers

Two late residents - an author best known for a book about pre-Jackie Robinson baseball and a St. Paul's teacher - will be honored this weekend.

The quiet corner garden outside the Ramsey Free Public Library will pay tribute to two longtime borough volunteers at a dedication ceremony this weekend.

Ramsey Mayor Chris Botta announced the dedication of two benches and the garden center at a borough council meeting Wednesday night.

A bench will be dedicated to Pat Huot, a former councilwoman and borough volunteer who taught at St. Paul’s for 25 years. According to her obituary, Huot was a Ramsey resident from 1955 to her death in 2010.

A bench and the garden center will be dedicated to Robert Peterson, a longtime resident author and former Board of Education member and volunteer. According to his obituary, Peterson, who died in 2006, was best known for his book, Only The Ball Was White, an early history of black baseball before Jackie Robinson.

Both Huot and Peterson served as library trustees.
