Two Ramsey Seniors Named National Merit Finalists

Less than one percent of high school seniors in the US are eligible for the prestigious recognition.

The National Merit Scholarship Program recently named Christina Long and Courtney Porfido, members of the Class of 2014 at Ramsey High School, as Merit Finalists.  

Less than one percent of U.S. high school graduating seniors are eligible for this prestigious recognition. The selection of some 8,000 Merit Scholarship winners from the group of more than 15,000 Finalists is now in progress.  

Each scholarship must be used for full-time attendance at an accredited college or university in the United States. Scholarship winners will be notified beginning in March.

During their four years at Ramsey High School, Christina and Courtney have excelled in the most rigorous and demanding courses that the school offers, as well as being active participants in a variety of extra-curricular activities. 

Both Finalists have been recipients of the Ramsey High School Scholastic R award for three years in a row and are members of the National Honor Society.

Long is also a member of the World Language Honor Society.  She has participated in various clubs including Math League, Philosophiles, and Enrichment activities; has been a staff member of Opus, the school’s literary magazine, and had works published; and is a member of the spring track team.

In addition to her many club activities, Porfido a member of the spring track team, the winter indoor track team, and the cross country team.  She was very active in the Leadership Program both as a camper and then a leader during her sophomore, junior, and senior years.
