Show premiers Thursday.

The following was submitted to Patch by Ramsey High School.

Ramsey High School presents Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat which features rock n roll, country, and many other varieties of songs.  The musical’s songs were written by the infamous Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber while the lyrics were written by Tim Rice.  Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat premiers on March 20th, 21st, and 22nd at the Ramsey High School Auditorium.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat became popular in 1981 when it starred Bill Hutton and Laurie Beechman.  Told entirely in song, Joseph is a biblical cantata, a sort of musical eclectic gathering of rock, country, song and dance vaudeville, French balled, and calypso, following the Old Testament story of Joseph, Jacob’s favorite of 12 sons, to whom Jacob gives a coat of many colors.  In an act of jealousy, his 11 brothers sell Joseph into a life of slavery in Egypt, where he is imprisoned and then surprisingly flourishes after interpreting his dreams.  Discovered by Pharaoh, he becomes Egypt's number two man, saves the country from famine, and is eventually reunited with his father and brothers.  The action of the story is told by the narrators to the audience, as if reading a children's book.  The different styles of music chosen by Lloyd Weber help maintain the audience’s interest, while entertaining and amusing the entire family.  The cast changes quickly from one character to another, keeping the plot moving at a crisp pace jumping from genre to new genre, and having fun along the way.

The role of Joseph is portrayed by Nicholas Venturini while the narrators are Logan Barone, Nicole Borbone, Charlie Jupp-Adams, and Larissa Rosa.  The brothers who change tunes by the end of show are Greg Argenio, Robbie Bailey, Josh Bialkin, Billy Forrester, John Iaccarino, Bryan Jahke, Zach Jones, Jake McGrath, Alexander Osani, David Perrotti, and Zach Rockefeller.  Greg Argenio also plays Pharaoh while Mr. and Mrs. Potiphar are played by Brendan Borbone and Kasey Kelly, respectively.  Jacob is portrayed by Gabe Landes.  Others in the cast include Kaitlin Bussanich, Gabrielle Daniels, Athena Davis, Kasey Kelly, Tara Lellos, Caroline Martin, Kate Miller, Jenny Monteith, Alex Rockefeller, Natalia Senakayake, Tori Stitz, and Hannah Tokish with student director Talia Cantor, Anna Klein, and Nick Badilla.  Joseph is directed and choreographed by Mr. Doug Gipple, theatre and English teacher at Ramsey High School.
