Dunk Your Kicks for Pediatric Cancer

Help The Max Cure Foundation at the Ramsey Library

For the month of October, you will have a chance to “Dunk” your old, used sneakers in The Max Cure Foundation bin for their “Dunk Your Kicks” program. For each pair of kicks donated, The Max Cure Foundation will be able to donate an average of $1 towards their Roar Beyond Barriers program, where they support low-income and military families who have children battling pediatric cancer.

The Max Cure Foundation (MCF) is a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to advancing cures for pediatric cancers, funding the development of less toxic treatments for children, including the funding of an immune cell therapy lab at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center dedicated to alternative treatments for children battling the disease. MCF also provides low income and military families who are battling pediatric cancer with emotional and financial support while seeking to inspire children with the disease to confront it with courage, hope and bravery.

The Max Cure Foundation was created in December of 2008 inspired by one child's brave fight against a rare B-Cell Lymphoma, never before seen by the oncologists at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan. On May 2nd 2007,  the day before his fourth birthday Max was diagnosed with cancer. Max underwent two years of intense chemotherapy.

Learning  and experiencing first hand that pediatric cancer was/is extremely underfunded and the treatments used today, while can be effective are highly toxic, the Plotkin Family with close friends took a stand. Within the year, they raised more then $250,000 for The Max Cure Fund, which is held at MSKCC and earmarked for underwriting an immune cell therapy lab at MSKCC. This lab is dedicated to alternative treatments and innovative research for children and young adults who are battling cancer. They have committed five million dollars to this project.

The Max Cure Foundation is active on local and national levels working with families, their hospitals and schools to raise money and awareness while teaching the art of philanthropy and giving back.
