Ramsey DARE Nabs $1K Donation from Wells Fargo

Money will be used to help fund DARE programs and scholarships, police say

The Ramsey DARE program is now $1,000 richer, thanks to a donation from the Wells Fargo bank location on E. Main Street. Ramsey Police DARE Officer Tim Shoemaker announced the donation this week, saying it will help fund some of the program’s outreach efforts to kids, and adults, in the community.

The program not only teaches Drug Abuse Resistance Education classes to Ramsey elementary school students, but also offers an optional Police Leadership program for older kids in the borough.

DARE officers also host Parent Education Seminars, Drug Alliance Briefings, Visits to Cub Scout, Girl Scout and Boy Scout Meetings and Regular Appearances at Community Events.

“Thanks to partners like Wells Fargo, the DARE program has been able to accomplish all of this while still awarding over $2000 in college scholarships to Ramsey kids over the past two years,” Shoemaker said in a release.

This $1,000 donation will go toward “Construction costs," Shoemaker said. "We’re building the future.”

Representatives from Wells Fargo said choosing to donate to Ramsey DARE was an easy choice. It is one of the programs, representatives said, the company is proud to support in the community.

Shoemaker was the 2009 NJ State DARE Officer of the Year and the 2011 U.S. National DARE Officer of the year.

“It’s all due to our superhuman volunteers and dedicated supporters within the community,” he said in the release. “Their passion drives this program and I’m just lucky to be a part of it.”
