Man Beat Co-Workers with Shovel and Chair, Cops Say

Ramsey police said the man also 'menaced' his co-workers with a box cutter during an altercation at their job

A New York man was arrested in Ramsey Friday after allegedly beating up two of his co-workers at a borough business with a metal chair, a shovel, and a box cutter, police said Monday afternoon.

Vladmir Alexis, 23, of Spring Valley, N.Y., was charged with aggravated assault after he and a co-worker got into an argument at the North American Parts Distributors HQ at 200 Williams Drive in Ramsey at about 2:13 a.m. last Friday morning, Ramsey Police Chief Bryan Gurney said Monday.

Alexis allegedly got into a fight with the coworker during a break, Gurney said. Police declined to release information on what caused the verbal fight, but said that it escalated into a physical altercation when Alexis hit the other man with a metal chair.

According to Gurney, a North American Parts Distributors supervisor tried to intervene to break up the fight. Alexis allegedly then hit the supervisor with a shovel, Gurney said.

Also during the fight, Alexis “menaced the two victims with a box cutter, [but] no one was cut,” Gurney said.

Both victims suffered minor injuries, he said.

Alexis was arrested and remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, police said.
