Ramapo Mountain People.

The Ramapo people are right to be offended by unkind words, but one need only read a few history books to find carefully researched and footnoted documentation that there is little Native American genetics in the "Ramapough Indians".  First read "The Ramapo Mountain People", 1964, by Dr David S Cohen.  He traces the families from the 1600s Manhattan to Stag Hill through records of births, deaths, baptisms, census, and real estate transfers.

In "The History of Rockland County" 1886, Frank Bertangue Green, M.D. specifically says, "

But for more than a century, the Indian has been foreign to our boundaries, and but little trace remains to show that he has been."  That was in 1886.  These people have a proud heritage as descendants of17th Century Slaves and Dutch settlers which they refuse to acknowledge.
