Ramsey Cinema Gets New Tenants, Kickstart Fundraiser

To go digital, instead of dark, Ramsey Cinema needs your help to raise funds.

The owners of Ramsey's Planet Swirl have heeded the call and are taking over the management of the Ramsey Cinema. Because the cost of digitizing the theater is astronomical, and cost prohibitive for many independent “Main Street” theaters across the country, partners Laura Rose, Dave Rose and Karen Emmert need help to go digital to keep the theater from going dark. In an effort to defray costs, they are launching a campaign on Kickstarter.com beginning October 1st. Kickstarter.com is a web site devoted to supporting the arts and other projects to help people raise funds for their endeavor.

Kickstarter.com is a reward program. Everyone who pledges will receive a reward – from movie tickets, to a private showing, to advertising on the big screen – as well as invitations to the gala red carpet re-opening event.

The Kickstarter program is an all or nothing program. In order to be successful the goal of $125,000 must be raised to help fund the project.

So SPREAD THE WORD! Presentations have already been made before the school PTO's and the Ramsey Chamber of Commerce. Email addresses are beig collected at Planet Swirl, as well. Everyone – from residents to business owners - is SO EXCITED for the project and are committing to pledging.

Area businesses are donating their expertise in printing, video production and PR/advertising to help with the program. All funds raised will go into digitizing the theater and making improvements such as the installation of new seats, new carpeting, and a new lobby/concession area.
