Group founded by Westwood woman to collect signatures at Teaneck festival.
A group working to have Bergen County's Blue Laws eliminated through a voter referendum will collect signatures at Teaneck's Memorial Day festival on Cedar Lane. Westwood resident Rosemary Shashoua, the group's founder, said they have collected 575 signatures as of Sunday, NJ.com reported. It will take 2,500 signatures from registered Bergen County voters to get on the November ballot. According to the group's Facebook page, they hope to collect as many as 500 signatures at the Teaneck event. Group volunteers plan to setup outside 446 Cedar Lane. After spending two years under a revamped business model, the lawn and garden shop on Franklin Turnpike has new owners, who say they want to honor the store’s 60-year history in Ramsey.
It is hard to drive by the Ramsey Nursery on Franklin Turnpike without noticing that the garden center is back in business. The outdoor shelves are stocked with flowers, ‘Open’ flags are flying at the store’s entrance, and locals are stopping in to see what the new shop has to offer. For new owner John Occhiuto, he hopes the answer is more of what it always had offered. Ramsey Nursery, Occhiuto said, first opened in that location over 60 years ago. Former owner Mike Rublino spent decades selling plant and garden goods to the community before retiring two years ago. The business that replaced Ramsey Nursery initially, Horticulture, was a revamped version of the shop that went out of business at the beginning of this year. Occhiuto, who has …

Teresa Giudice – the reality TV star made famous by The Real Housewives of New Jersey, and The Celebrity Apprentice, and line of best-selling cookbooks – is coming to Ramsey this June. She’ll be carrying a supply of her latest cookbook, “Fabulicious! On the Grill: Teresa’s Smoking Hot Backyard Recipes,” signing copies for fans, and snapping photos at the event. According to the owner of Gina Avino Artistic Designs on Main Street, Giudice will be stopping at the shop on June 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. for a book signing. The stop is part of Giudice’s book signing tour around the area to promote the book. A local entrepreneur has started a new league that he says will help fill a void in the Bergen County sports scene. Carl Susini, who has lived in Mahwah with his wife since 2004, was a coach in the Mahwah Youth Football League for eight years before serving as president of the Bergen Passaic Youth Football League. Though Susini and his wife could not have any children, he says the impact youth sports had on him as a child prompted him to become involved in the existing programs in the township, and create something new. “I remember the experience I got,” he said. “It was not only educational, I learned things that were really life-changing.
