Unused Snow Days Shorten Ramsey School Year

District officials made the school year longer to accommodate for days lost during Hurricane Sandy. Now, students will start summer a few days earlier than anticipated.

The Ramsey school year will be over two days earlier than anticipated, thanks to a few unused snow days, Interim Superintendent Bruce DeYoung announced at a Board of Education meeting Tuesday night.

The end of the year has gone through several rounds of rescheduling since Hurricane Sandy, which used up the emergency snow days that were originally built into the calendar. When district officials introduced a new calendar earlier this year, it elongated the school year to make up for the days.

According to DeYoung, kids and teachers will now be done with school earlier than anticipated.

The last day of school for students will be Wednesday, June 26, and the last day for teachers will be Thursday, June 27, he said.

The high school graduation and Smith School graduation ceremonies, scheduled for June 21 and 27 respectively, will not change, he said. Memorial Day will also remain a three-day weekend.
