Lumineers Predict ‘Worst Speech In Grammy History’ If They Win

The band, made up of two Ramsey natives and a musician from Colorado, are nominated for two Grammy awards this Sunday

The Lumineers are not expecting to win the two Grammy awards they are nominated for – Best New Artist and Best Americana Album. In a recent JPL interview with Carson Daly, the band’s lead singer Wesley Schultz, a Ramsey native, said he’d be shocked if the band wins.

“If we win a Grammy, we’ll have the worst speech in Grammy history,” Schultz said in the interview. “We’re not really expecting to win. We are pretty honored to be nominated, that’s pretty shocking in itself.”

Lumineers drummer, Ramsey native Jeremiah Fraites, added that the band’s competition in the Best New Artist category – Alabama Shakes, fun., Hunter Hayes and Frank Ocean – are all “probably better. They probably got it…We got no shot.”

The Ramsey duo started playing together in the mid-2000’s, then relocated to Colorado where they met Denver native and multi-instrumentalist Neyla Pekarek, who joined the band.

The trio is unsure if it will actually attend the Grammy ceremony on Sunday, Schultz said in the interview.
