Alleged Attempted Murderer Arrested in Ramsey

Fugitive wanted in California was staying in a Route 17 motel, police said

A California man wanted for attempted murder was arrested in Ramsey this week after police discovered he was staying at the Maple Shade Motel on Route 17.

Marco Pinto, 33, of Tracy, Calif., had an active warrant out of San Jose for attempted murder and illegal weapons possessions charges, Police Chief Bryan Gurney said.

On Tuesday, Detective Brian Huth noticed a 2008 Chevy sedan with a California registration parked at the motel, Gurney said Friday. Huth ran a check of the license plate and found that the car was registered to the fugitive, police said.

Using video surveillance at the motel, Huth confirmed that Pinto was staying in Room 2, Gurney said.

Ramsey Police and U.S. Marshals Service set up surveillance at the motel on Wednesday; at about 12:30 p.m. Pinto left his room and started to drive the car down Route 17, police said. Officers pulled him over and arrested him without incident, Gurney said.

Police had no additional details about Pinto's alleged crimes or why the fugitive was in Ramsey, but Pinto was working at the Pizza Hut in Ramsey, Gurney said.

Pinto was transported to the Bergen County Jail, pending extradition to San Jose, police said.
